Otis, the world’s largest elevator manufacturer, is building a new “test tower” in Shanghai. It is part of a global R&D facility that will allow Otis to further develop and test new elevator components. The tower is expected to reach 270 meters in height, making it one of the tallest test towers in the world. The company plans to use the tower to test new elevator components and to research ways to improve existing systems.

The Standard Oil building in New York City in the 20th century used the original Signal Control that Otis devised. This system allowed passengers to press a floor to open or close the elevator doors. When Malkin Properties decided to renovate the building, they approached Otis for a job.
